I was excited to get some of the bandages removed. Genuinely excited as some of the pre-existing tapes that were plastered all over my face was rather annoying. After some bandage removal: It will be at this level of bandages for the next few days. As such, shades and masks will be useful (only when the cast is still there)! No glasses on the nose is allowed once the cast is removed. Do try to keep clean as washing your own face will be a distant reality. I was in Korea during early autumn which was perfect! If you are wondering about the marshmallow in my ear, it is a gauze for my ears as the surgeon used the ear cartilage for the nose tip. That is how the back of my right ear looked like. They took the ear cartilage from my right ear. If you prefer your left-right ear you might want to highlight this as I did not. However, I am unsure if it is possible to choose ear (check with your surgeon). This will influence the side you sleep on for the next few weeks.
The operation was done in two phases: eyes followed by nose. I had to be awake during the surgery for my eyes as they needed me to open and close my eyes during the surgery. Once the eyes were done, I was sedated, and rhinoplasty was conducted. There were instances of discomfort for lateral canthoplasty but other than that, everything else was a breeze. I even woke up from the operation wondering if they forgot about my rhinoplasty. I had a friend to take me back to my hotel after the operation. She helped me settle the medication purchases and instructions. I believe most people will be able to make their way back on their own, but I certainly recommend at least a pick up. Post-operation looks like that: Post-op did not hurt but was mildly uncomfortable. I was asked to return the next day to remove some of the bandages.
The day of the operation was the first time I step into the clinic. Consultation took about 1.5 to 2 hours. This included discussions/activities related to: procedures to be conducted including their professional recommendations, pricing, photo-taking. In-house translators will be there to assist you if you do not speak Korean. Overall, everything went very smoothly – previous deposits as well as any promotions via Misooda were noted without reminders. The procedures changed after the consultation – but not to worry as it is mainly dependent on what is suitable for you. Since I did not have anything specific that I was looking for, only armed with general concerns such as “I want a better side view”, I believe this allowed the clinic some flexibility to pick and decide a look that is suitable and natural. The table below shows the changes in the procedures before/after physical consult on the day of the operation versus online discussion. Pre-consultation recommendations Post-consultation recommendations Basic rhinoplasty Rhinoplasty (Nose bridge and tip) Non-incisional ptosis correction Ptosis correction (incisional) Epi canthoplasty Lateral canthoplasty Although the procedures changed, the prices did not differ from what was expected. Lateral canthoplasty was suggested to be optional but I went ahead with my original intention. By the way, foreigners get tax refunds, and this can be a substantial amount.
