Confession: Born in Thailand, beauty made in Korea

Who: Thip, sales consultant, late 20s

Her story: "I had my first rhinoplasty in Thailand in 2011 and after 3 years my nose skin became thinner and thinner such that you can see the implant inside. I wanted to fix this problem and redo the surgery and have heard many good things about Korean Plastic Surgery. I knew Korean surgeries were more expensive than Thailand but decided to still save up and go.

Her Korea experience: "The doctor at JK Plastic Surgery clinic recommended a revision rhinoplasty as well as upper face fat grafting including forehead and temples. My doctor was Dr Kim Sung Sik. He's a board-certified surgeon with 11 years of experience (excluding 5 years of general medical experience). He specialized in rhinoplasty and bone contouring. What I liked about JK was their zero pain de-swelling experience while at the hospital. Naturally I had some discomfort during recovery but there was no major pain for me. I stayed in a hotel near Dongdaemun so I could go shopping and sightseeing the next day.

Korea vs Thailand: "After my first rhinoplasty was not successful, I tried ways and means to get as much information as I could about Korean surgery and their techniques they use. I also tried comparing doctors’ techniques which was very limited in English. Through some friends and websites who shared Korean surgery experiences, they gave me useful tips and information such as doctors’ name and specialties. I like JK’s natural looking nose style and Dr Kim and their staffs were very professional. I told myself I didn’t want a third rhinoplasty but I wouldn’t mind more surgeries if my rhinoplasty turned out satisfactory."

Advice for others: "It is very important you clearly understand the surgery technique and doctor details before going to Korea. Even though I had a previous rhinoplasty experience, my Korean surgery experience was actually quite different in terms of the results outcome and techniques Dr Kim used. It is useful to understand the limitations of the surgery and be prepared on the surgery outcome. It is also recommended to do some homework on the Korean plastic surgery prices in order to get a fair quotation."
